Areas of Difficulties in English Grammar among Senior Secondary Schools Students in Ondo West Local Government Area, Ondo State

Abstract

This study examined the difficult areas in English grammar among students in Senior Secondary schools in Ondo West Local Government Area, Ondo State. The study adopted the survey design. A total of 300 senior secondary school students were randomly selected from 10 public secondary schools in Ondo West Local Government Area, Ondo State. The instrument used was Questionnaire on Knotty Areas in English Grammar (r=0.87). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The results indicated that students’ identified irregular verbs, concord, question and answer tags as knotty areas in Englis grammar. Based on the findings, it was recommended that teachers should adopt effective teaching strategies that could demystify these grammatical concept for students.
